The market gap analysis report provides a report of the studies performed in the MobiDataLab project task T3.3 «Gap Analysis». The current gaps of products and services related to transport data have been identified in the framework of the MobiDataLab Use Cases. A vision of the future Transport Cloud that may be facilitated by the MobiDataLab prototype has been defined. Finally, a SWOT analysis for the future Transport Cloud have been addressed.

First, the report clarifies the main gaps and issues in the current market of transport data. Examples of such gaps are the heterogeneity of data sources leading to difficult data aggregation and comparability; the various degrees of mobility data availability and accessibility; the lack of standardisation models and data anonymization tools; the low understanding of the business value that data sharing would favour.

Second, the report provides a vision for the future Transport Cloud, i.e., the tool that is expected to be developed thanks to the MobiDataLab prototype. Such a vision allows to understand who the stakeholders to be addressed are (data consumers, data providers, service providers, innovators, and researchers) and the needs that justify its development (need to deal with interoperability, reliability, quality, governance, security, privacy, monetisation, and accessibility issues).

Accordingly, the future Transport Cloud shall be designed as a lean and strong structure. It should be able to identify new variables, requirements, and standards necessary for a successful set up of data usage and sharing mechanisms in the transport sector. It shall allow for a marketplace to match data demand and data supply, where data coming from different platforms and sensors can be aggregated, combined, consolidated, and accessed.

Finally, the SWOT analysis suggests that strengths and opportunities are mainly related to the favorable and collaborative environment while weaknesses and threats are mainly related to current technical data management complexities, stakeholders’ acceptance, and related commitment.

Therefore, it is recommended to clearly define the governance and business models in parallel to the technical implementation of the future Transport Cloud system.
